Roman Bukarev

Roman applies GIS in Ecoclub's projects focused on
preservation of the Baraba Steppe, a unique natural area in
Novosibirskaya Oblast. While training in Missoula he converted his paper
maps to digital format using our digitizer to create an extensive GIS
database for his work.

Andrei Korolyuk
Ecoclub, Novosibirsk, Russia
Andrei has a Ph.D. in botany, and he supervises
Roman's work in the Baraba Steppe. He used our
high-speed Internet connection and GIS facility to
obtain satellite imagery for the Ecoclub's GIS
databases, and camped for a week in Yellowstone National Park and
studied local flora.

Alexander Yumakaev
Fund for 21st Century Altai, Barnaul, Russia
Alexander worked on GIS maps for a proposal
to create a National Park to protect ecosystems in
the Katunsky Range, including Mount Belukha (4506
meters). He also worked on a GIS analysis of rocket
fuel pollution in the Altai region. During his internship, Alexander
spent a lot of time improving his skills on using ArcInfo software.

Sergei manages a GIS database on Karelia's intact
forests. This database will be used for a Greenpeace Russia campaign to
stop logging in Karelia, a region that features one of the last intact
forest ecosystems remaining in Europe.

Vladimir is an ornithologist who applies GIS in
his bird habitat research on Sakhalin Island.
