In 2001 support from Trust for Mutual Understanding allowed us to bring
three interns from Russia. Together with SCGIS International Scholars,
they took one week of classes on ArcGIS from ESRI instructors at
California's San Jacinto James Reserve, then another week of classes at
the ESRI Learning Center in Redlands. After the training, the big
international crowd headed to Anza Borrego desert for SCGIS annual
conference, then went to San Diego for ESRI's User Conference. After the
conferences, Alexander went home, while Valery and Anna stayed for one
more week of training in Redlands and then visited our office in
Missoula. |

Valery Sinyukov
Tectonic and Geophysics Institute, Khabarovsk,
Russia
Valery is the Deputy Director of the Tectonic and
Geophysics Institute where he organized a GIS lab that implements
projects analyzing the environmental conditions in many regions of the
Russian Far East and Siberia. The results of these analyses are then
delivered to local officials and decision makers. Valery's GIS lab also
serves as a regional hub that collects various GIS data sets and shares
them with regional conservation groups. A geologist by training, Valery
was very excited to use his free time to study geological formations of
California and Montana, and to walk along the famous Californian faults.
You can contact Valery at valery@itig.as.khb.ru.
